Perhaps the most famous melee weapon in DC lore, the Soultaker Sword is famously possessed by Tatsu Yamashiro, a.k.a. the hero Katana. She stole the blade from her Yakzua brother-in-law after he used it to slay her husband. It was then that she learned the Muramasa, the 14th century bladesmith who forged the Soultaker, had imbued it with mystic powers.

As its name suggests, the Soultaker steals the soul of anyone killed by it, storing them in a limbo dimension that the sword is also a gateway to. Anyone using the sword is able to communicate with the souls trapped in it and can occasionally release them, though doing so frees all the other souls trapped in the blade as well.

The sword itself is also physically impressive. It is sharp and durable enough to cut through some of the toughest materials in the DC universe, including Captain Atom's dilustel skin which contains his nuclear form.

But the power of the sword doesn't stop there. The Soultaker is the totem of the mythical Sword Clan and whoever wields it is their defacto leader. According to legend, it also grants them enlightenment and immortality. And given the things Katana has managed to survive thanks to her connection with Soultaker, it seems the legends may be true.
