15 Worst Female Superhero Costumes

We're about to jump into the world of boob windows and perma-wedgies.

A-Force Marvel She Hulk
Marvel Comics

In the comic industry, we are currently spoiled for choice when it comes to female characters, artists and writers. We have seen sidekicks like Harley Quinn blossom into strong, independent characters. Not only that, but teams such as the A-Force have proven time and time again that the women of Marvel are not to be messed with.

It's been an uphill battle and left in its wake is a whole bunch of questionable costumes. We're about to jump into the world of boob windows, perma-wedgies and 'sexy' animal-based Halloween costumes.

Of course, it's difficult to win when it comes to female design. On the one hand you will have people complaining of over-sexualisation, on the other you have people complaining the character isn't 'sexy' enough.

However, not all the terrible costumes are down to an abundance of lady parts. Plenty of characters suffer from another issue: a lack of effort when it comes to costume design. This is doubly true of female superheroes, who are often reduced to eye candy or a boring one-piece outfit.

15. Psylocke

A-Force Marvel She Hulk
Marvel

Introduced in 1976, Psylocke has been a solid part of the X-Men and various other mutant teams ever since. Her abilities are incredible, and she easily holds her own against some of the strongest villains Marvel has to offer.

Betsy has recently undergone a brilliant redesign in Tini Howard’s incredible run on Excalibur. Having been given the Amulet of Right from her dying brother, she is currently is sporting one of the best Captain Britain costumes ever.

Yet, for the longest time Betsy was associated with the classic Psylocke costume. Unfortunately, that look was just a leotard, a sash and some knee-high boots. Of course, there was various accessories she picked up along the way, but overall, the costume lacked any imagination.

With the casting of Oliva Munn for X-Men: Apocalypse, Bryan Singer had the chance to put his own spin on the classic suit. Surprisingly, in a franchise that thrives on having X-Men in black leather, Psylocke kept her comic-accurate suit. But of course, they just had to add a boob window.

Despite how uninspiring her outfit is, it still managed to influence the look of our next hero.
