2. Peter Parker Subconsciously Holds Doc Oc Back (Superior Spider-Man #1)
Prior to this issue, at the climax of the "Dying Wish" storyline in Amazing Spider-Man #700, Peter Parker had died and Doctor Octopus had implanted his mind into his body, determined to prove himself the "Superior" Spider-Man by being both a better superhero and person than Parker could ever have hoped to be. His aim is to woo Parker's old girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson, while simultaneously developing new successful technologies in his job at Horizon Labs and enhance his crime-fighting abilities. However, he struggles with the fact that any success at Horizon will be credited to Peter Parker, not Otto Octavius. He earns himself the admiration of the public when he defeats the Sinister Six (who, at that point, were made up of Boomerang, the Beetle, Living Brain, Overdrive, Shocker and Speed Demon) as they rob Horizon, almost killing Boomerang in the confrontation. Unbeknownst to Octavius - and revealed to the audience - he is subconsciously held back by Parker's consciousness, which still somehow exists within his body, buried underneath Octavius' own consciousness, intent on stopping the villain and reclaiming his life. From there, we know that it is going to be an ongoing battle of wills between the pair of long-time arch-enemies.
