Despite the fact that Wonder Woman was introduced as a feminist icon in a bid to teach youngsters about gender equality, things didn't go so well for her when she ended up joining the Justice Society. DC Comics made the decision to put the character in the team when a survey of comic book readers found that both girls and boys wanted her in there. In a 1942 story, the team of heroes went off to fight the Nazis, but left Wonder Woman behind to reply to their mail and answer the phones. She became the Justice Society's secretary, a movie which left the character's creator completely livid. Thankfully, she's now one of the lead members of the Justice League, but this was still a major insult to her.
