Why does Wonder Woman carry a Lasso of Truth which leaves anyone who's bound by it unable to lie? Well, it wasn't just a random decision as it turns out, as her creator William Moulton Marston was the psychologist who created the lie detector test in 1913. It's pretty obvious then where his inspiration for Wonder Woman's signature weapon came from! In 1923, Marston tried to have lie detector tests used in courtrooms, but they rejected the machine because of what they considered to be a high frequency of error. He obviously wasn't too pleased with the decision, and would later write a comic which saw Wonder Woman try to get confessions made with the help of her Lasso of Truth admissible in court.
