A cliffhanger ending saw the Boy Wonder tied up in a warehouse which only Batman could save him from, and this inspired DC Comics to set up a toll free hotline to get readers to call in and vote on whether he should live or die. With 5,343 to 5,271 voting for Jason Todd's death, he met his violent end at the hands of The Joker. However, he would return years later as a violent vigilante, now going by the name Red Hood, subsequently becoming a fan-favourite in the process. They wouldn't kill him again.
