13. He Wasn't Created By Stan Lee...
Like most of Marvel's most iconic superheroes, you might think that Captain America was co-created by Stan Lee, the man who brought comic book readers everyone from Spider-Man to the Fantastic Four and X-Men. Originally conceived as "Super American", Timely Comics' (which would later be renamed Marvel) Joe Simon and Jack Kirby were the ones who came up with Captain America, and he made his debut a year before America entered the war. By the late '40s, interest in the character started to fade though, and he made only sporadic appearances in the early '50s taking on various communist threats to the USA.
