20 Totally Badass Comic Book Panels‏

5. Nick Fury Rides A Motorcycle Through A Wall, Topless

We're really not sure that context will add a whole bunch to this. As bad a mofo as Samuel L Jackson's portrayal of Sergeant Nick Fury is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is - he could even get that title on a wallet or something - the gold standard for totally badass moments still remains with Jim Steranko's Agent of SHIELD run. Along with fleshing out a character who was mostly a sixties curio, an Avengers supporting cast member, Steranko also did some crazy inventive things with the comic book form. And he drew some totally baller moments, like this one. Seriously. He's riding a futuristic motorcycle through the wall of an enemy's base, both hands firing laser rifles, with no shirt on. That'll put hair on your chest, lad. We'd be remiss if we didn't mention that, unlike most of the creators who dreamt up the other panels on this list, Steranko has a history of badass behaviour in his own life. Growing up in the Great Depression, the young artist found himself the target of bullies at school - so he took self defense and martial arts lessons to deal with them himself. Prior to entering the comics industry he was a professional rock musician and stage magician. Oh, and one time he punched Bob Kane in the face. So that's fun.
