14. Rick Jones (Hulk, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Rom)
First Appearance: The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) Some may gawk at Rick Jones's inclusion on this list, as he is in many ways the definitive Marvel sidekick. But still, hear me out. As a young man, Rick drove out to a bomb testing site on a dare, where he narrowly escaped death when a certain Bruce Banner pushed him to safety in a trench. The resulting blast created the Hulk, one of the most iconic comic book characters ever created. Rick then became the Hulk's sidekick for a time and played an instrumental part in the formation of the Avengers, subsequently joining them as a honorary member. Since then, Rick has worked alongside Captain America, becoming Bucky for a time, and has also played sidekick to the space knight Rom and two different incarnations of Captain Marvel. Rick Jones has played a vital role in forming the Marvel Universe that we know and love today. Technically, that should make him one of the best sidekicks of all time... except pretty much all of this happened by accident, either because of Rick's stupidity or because he was just in the right place at the right time. Oh and he's also the sidekick equivalent of a prostitute, working with every hero under the sun. Shame on you Rick... What would your mother say?
