Worth Reading For: Byrne’s Page Layouts

As said earlier, there are a whole lot of DC comics at your disposal every month - a lot of them are exceptionally good, too - but even with their new pricing scheme, keeping up with them would be a pretty costly affair. Keeping up with Green Arrow, however, is worth the price on the cover.

Green Arrow, Black Canary and John Diggle are in the midst of dealing with the philosophical implications of cutting off just one head of a sprawling hydra, in this case, the crime-world’s banking organisation menacingly named “The Ninth Circle,” after the circle of hell in Dante’s “Inferno,” reserved for traitors who betray those with whom they share a bond of love.

One of the best parts about the Green Arrow run featuring Benjamin Percy and Stephen Byrne is their apparent differences in style. Byrne’s style leans more towards the ‘cartoon’ than ‘realism’ end of the artistic spectrum but, working alongside master of suspense Percy, the two have been producing one of the more refreshingly original series in the Rebirth canon. Byrne’s panel layouts set the beat of a story that stands out among the great creators working at DC right now.

That’s it for this week, hopefully it was helpful. Don’t forget to leave a comment if you think we've missed something great.

A. J. S. Scott was created as a homunculus by a mad English Alchemist who was trying to make rum from ink and seawater. He is still a fan of both and he has no comment on what happened to all the ‘No Exit’ signs in Islington Underground Station when he visited for Beltaine. You can send him missives by bribing the Right Raven with sour-strings, or: Instagram: @ajsscott Tumblr: andrew-scott-things.tumblr.com
