The Civil War series established that Wolverine can be in an explosion that reduces him to nothing but skeleton, yet still regenerate and heal back to normal. If that's the case, logic (comic book logic, but still...) would dictate that Logan actually survived being slathered in boiling adamantium alloy. It's entirely possible that the shiny shell created such trauma to Wolverine's body that he went into a state of stasis. While nearly killing him, the metal tomb could have also been preserving and protecting him while each nerve cell and muscle fiber slowly regenerated. Memories would slowly creep back into the healing brain as Logan struggles to discern what is dream and what is reality. The real trouble would be when Wolverine has completely healed. With body and mind restored, there is still the problem of being encased in an indestructible metal. Being incapable of physical escape, he would have no option but to focus his mind and desperately attempt to contact Professor X telepathically. Once contact is made, the Professor would need to find a way to release Logan from his tomb before he loses his grip on sanity. Once released, it would add an interesting dynamic to Wolverine's character to see him dealing with a newly discovered bout of claustrophobia in addition to his re-introduction to the world.
