It's certainly not unheard of. He's done it before even. If Wolverine was truly killed, then he would have found himself wandering somewhere in the Marvel comics afterlife. A group known as the "Red Right Hand" managed to trap Wolverine in a mystical circle which sends him to Hell. While Logan's soul fought hordes of his dead enemies, his body was possessed by a demon that was determined to kill his friends and loved ones. With no adamantium claws and a weakened healing factor, Wolverine, by mostly sheer will, battled his way out of the afterlife and eventually reclaims his body from the possessing demons. Regardless of his heroism, it isn't tough to imagine that a deceased Wolverine would go to Hell...again. The reigning Hell-Lords could have conferred after Wolverine's previous escape to devise a plan to capture his soul permanently, should he ever return. An entire mini-series could be made out of Logan trekking through the various dimensions of Hell and facing the Lord of each realm. Wolverine's trek could be similar to that of Dante traversing the levels of Hell in The Divine Comedy. He would be forced to fight through Hades to face the Olympian god Pluto; survive the realms of Marduk Kuriou and Mephisto, and perhaps face Dormammu and a legion of chosen dead foes before finally re-emerging in Earth-616. Being that such a big deal was made of Wolverine's death, his war through the afterlife would need to be given the epic treatment it deserves.
