6 Interesting Versions Of Cyclops Across The Multiverse

4. Corporal Scott Summers

(EARTH - TRN231) - As not all alternate realities timelines run parallel to the mainstream 616 universe, this Earth's timeline saw mutants play an important part in the American Civil War that split the country in half. As mutants began developing they also began fighting on the various sides of the war, which led to unique historical changes in this reality. Scott Summers rose through the ranks of the Union army under the training of Corporal Fury and Doctor Xavier, who tutored him in the use of his mutant powers. Corporal Summers helped turn the tide of the war, along with his team that consisted of Ororo Munroe and James Rhodes. Some time after the war, Corporal Summers joined the X-Treme X-Men, a team of dimensionally lost mutants on the hunt for evil alternate reality Xaviers, which sounds about as terrifying as it can get in the X-universe. Eventually Corporal Summers relocated to the 616 universe, so expect to see this version of Cyclops to pop up again in the near future.
Major Character Differences Obviously, one of the main differences is Summers upbringing in the Civil War-era timeline of his universe. As an African-American, Summers was raised in the slave trade before his mutant powers manifested. While his time as a hero falls in line with the typical 616 Cyclops, his life before he was found by Fury and Xavier resulted in a very different man than the Cyclops we are used too. What was really interesting about the differences between the characters was the similar traits both consistently demonstrate despite the extreme differences in their upbringing.
