6 Interesting Versions Of Cyclops Across The Multiverse
5. Basilisk
AGE OF X (EARTH 11326) - On the flip side of the AoA universe, the Age of X is a world where mutants are on the verge of extinction. After the mutant Henry McCoy was viciously beaten and killed, human/mutant relations reached a critical point, which quickly erupted after the Phoenix manifested and killed 600 000 civilians. Led by Magneto, the surviving mutants hold out at Fortress X, the last bastion of mutant kind, which is continually attacked by the human race's elite squad of mutant hunters known as the Avengers. The reality was conjured into being by a new personality of David Haller, who clearly has a knack for meddling with alternate realities. Cyclops' Age of X counterpart is a tragic and broken version of the character, which suits his more ominous title of Basilisk. Held in the mutant prisons by the human government, Scott is forced by the warden Arcade to act as the unwilling executioner of his mutant brethren. Arcade had his eyelids removed so that Scott couldn't turn off his optic blasts, which then required a special mask be worn that only Arcade could control. Scott is even forced to kill his own brother Alex, which eventually inspires Scott to escape the prison and join Magneto and the rest of the mutants in defense of Fortress X. Major Character Differences The most visual difference between Basilisk and Cyclops is the visor, which is the only thing holding back the optic blasts since the Age of X version is sans eyelids. He is also married to Joanna Cargill, a super strong mutant who sometimes goes by Frenzy, and until recently was considered an enemy of the X-Men.
