6 Interesting Versions Of Cyclops Across The Multiverse

2. Scotius Sumerisle

MARVEL 1602 (EARTH-311) - 1602 sees the Marvel Universe as imagined by Neil Gaiman. Set in the Elizabethan era, the various characters of the Marvel universe exist in various forms that reflect the setting, offering a number of unique glimpses into heroes like Daredevil, Nick Fury, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and more. The heroes of 1602 must assemble to face a threat to their entire world from a mysterious force. Any fan of Gaiman will instantly fall in love with his foray into the Marvel Universe, coupled beautifully with art by Andy Kubert. Scotius Sumerisle is a student of Carlos Javier at the College for the Sons of Gentlefolk. Much like in the 616 universe, he and his fellow students are persecuted for being different, but labeled as 'witchbreed' instead of mutant. Scotius is an integral part of his team and acts as the leader to the pupils, while working as something of an emissary for Javier.
Major Character Differences Obviously the Elizabethan garb and cultural changes make for an enormous difference of character, considering Scotius is not an American man in modern times. Visually, the main difference is that his glasses are made of ruby crystals, as opposed to the ruby quartz combination the 616 Cyclops makes his visor out of. There are of course still similarities, such as his affection for teammate Jean Grey, who generally disguises her gender and is known as John Grey in 1602.
