4. Christopher Priest

Novelist, musician, and possibly the first African-American editor and writer in mainstream comics, Christopher Priest has had a lasting impact on the medium of comics since beginning his career as an intern at Marvel in 1978. His comic book writing debut came with the first issue of Marvel's Falcon miniseries in 1983, and has worked at Marvel on and off since, working on characters such as Power Man & Iron Fist, Deadpool and the Spider-Geddon series.

His greatest impact to comics remains his work on Black Panther - from the late 90s to 2000s Priest focused on the character's role as king of Wakanda, instead of portraying him as just another superhero, also creating the character of Everett K. Ross, played by Martin Freeman in the Black Panther film - and the series Quantum & Woody for Acclaim Comics, a fun yet odd comic about an interracial crime fighting duo, whose powers require them to meet up once every 24 hours.

After a long absence from comics in the mid 2000s, he returned a few years ago, writing on Deathstroke as part of DC's Rebirth, and the Justice League, alongside a stint on Inhumans for Marvel.
