8 Comic Book Villains Humiliated By Wolverine
3. Sabretooth - Wolverine Vol. 3, #55
Sabretooth is Wolverine's greatest nemesis, with the pair having a colourful relationship both on and off the page.
At one time the plan was for Sabretooth to be revealed as Logan's father, but Claremont and Byrne left the X-books before it could happen. Even so, plenty of other writers and artists have found increasingly inventive ways of escalating the duo's rivalry, including a particular arc that revealed how Victor Creed always made a point of ruining each of Logan's birthdays. (Given how old Wolvie is, that's... a lot of bad birthdays.)
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that when the two clash it usually tends to ends in a bloody conclusion. And of these clashes, arguably none are bloodier than the one from Wolverine #55.
Although Jeph Loeb's run on Wolverine isn't good by any means, it does feature Logan's most emphatic victory over Sabretooth - or at least, what was later revealed to be one of his clones. Wielding the Muramasa blade against the feral version of Creed, Logan lopped off his old rival's arm, and then his head.
The comic itself treats this as a sort of mercy killing from Logan, and is intended as a sort of emotional moment between the pair, but the sheer over-the-top nature of the battle takes it into truly comic territory - sort of like a Marvel remake of the Black Knight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
