8 Confessions Of A Marvel Fan After Reading DC Comics

2. DC's Book Quality Is Far Better

Now, I'm not talking about the content of the books here, I'm talking about the actual paper.

Having dived in head first with Marvel, I was forced to get used to the glossy pages, reflecting every little bit of light back at me. Not too much of an issue, but kind of annoying when you're trying to read the bubble and you have your lamp reflecting right on it. Still, it wasn't as annoying as when a double page spread had a bubble right in the crease.

Little did I know, DC had already solved this problem. Unlike their counterparts, DC have offered a matte printing for a long time now across both single issues and trade paperbacks. No more annoying reflections to distract you and the artwork seemed to pop even more without the gloss. It makes even more sense when you turn to the darker, grittier stories and the matte print makes it far easier to see the detail involved.

It's a little thing, but when you're an avid collector, having that thicker, higher quality paper ensures your investment will take a little bit more of a beating.
