8 Incredibly Ridiculous Things About Early Ant-Man Comics

2. He Has Springs in His Shoes?

While growing and shrinking are generally the powers Ant-Man is known for, who could forget his super ability of owning springy shoes. Literally everyone? Yeah that sounds about right.

Ant-Man really only displays this ability once as a way to escape a piece of flypaper laid down by his nemesis Egghead. The story explains this one-off usage by telling how Ant-Man was told by his ants about the trap beforehand, thus wore the springy shoes specifically for this outing. It makes sense, but it still feels like a cheap payoff to just randomly give him that tool this time only.

It also feels like there is a better way to avoid being stuck in flypaper then wearing shoes with springs. Creative problem solving is great, but when fighting evil, maybe the simplest way is the best way.

Honestly, it's probably a good thing this chapter of Ant-Man's career has been lost to time. He already is seen as one of the lamer original Avengers, and springy shoes probably doesn't do a lot to add to his cool factor.
