While there are positives to placing the 'normal' parts of the DC universe under made up names - as names like Metropolis, Gotham, Bludhaven and Star City can all represent real places without having the political connotations of literally being them - there's still something to be said for using the actual names of real places.
Marvel using real locales makes their work feel all the more relatable and, by extension, all the easier to connect with as a result.
Seeing civilians casualties and destruction wrought out in real places makes fights seem all the more real and dangerous, because suddenly a battle is taking place somewhere that you had your summer holiday.
It's a small detail, for sure - but sometimes it's the small details that make all the difference.
