If 2012's Avengers film introduced Hawkeye fans to a world of taunts, one thing they have to be thankful for is that the interest gave way to a fantastic comic book, written by Matt Fraction with art from David Aja.

The 2012 series lasted for about 22 issues and was a critical success, earning multiple Eisners by shining a light on what Clint Barton got up to when he wasn't with the Avengers. Turns out he gets up to quite a lot, protecting his apartment block from gangsters, adopting a pizza-loving dog called Lucky (an issue takes place entirely from the dog's perspective), and generally getting up to hijinks with longtime ally Kate Bishop as he recovers from his most recent divorce.

That may genuinely be the best Marvel have published this decade, but it isn't the only series where Hawkeye has made a big impression. Fraction and Aja's run would be followed a formidable stint form superstar writer Jeff Lemire and artist Ramon Perez, before heading west to focus on Kate Bishop, thanks to Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero.

Everywhere you look you can see quality Hawkeye stories, and though they'd starred in plenty before 2010, this decade has been the character's best.
