8 Things DC Comics Wants You To Forget About Poison Ivy

8. She's Been An Antihero On Several Occasions

Although Ivy will most commonly be regarded as one of Batman's more evergreen enemies, she has dabbled in superheroics on more than one occasion. We saw as much in Batman: Arkham Knight (as a character who, like many of the series' other leading women, was unceremoniously chucked in a fridge), and more recently in the New 52's Birds of Prey series, where she was enlisted by Black Canary to unearth a shadowy conspiracy.

It didn't all go according to plan, mind you. What the book did show, however, was that Ivy is more an anti-hero than a simple femme fatale hellbent on destroying Gotham City. It's an element DC are rarely keen to emphasise and it's a massive shame, especially since other mediums have done well to highlight the moral complexity that's part and parcel for the character.

It's an element best exemplified in Ivy's relationship with Harley and in particular her major dislike for the Joker. She's aware more than most that the Clown's bad for old Harleen, and has reiterated that fact countless times on the page and off it (with a well placed kick if be).

Sure, Ivy's dogmatic devotion to the environment does lend her a villainous edge, in that she's willing to raze everything to the ground to build it up again, but it's a noble cause compared to most DC villains. Just look after the environment guys, god.
