One of the main differences between Wonder Woman and her fellow Justice League heroes, is that the Amazon is prepared to kill if she deems it necessary. And one prime, unfortunately public example of this is the execution of Maxwell Lord.

Lord had wormed his way into being the manager of the Justice League, working from within the group to implement his own twisted plan of global domination courtesy of Batman's Brother Eye tech. As the JL investigate the death of Blue Beetle, Lord realises that he may be about to be rumbled - and so uses his own swanky mind control technology to command Superman.

Diana soon deducts that the only way to stop Superman - a Supes who has already hospitalised the Caped Crusader - is to take out the person controlling the Man of Steel. By 'take out', that means death in Wonder Woman's eyes.

By snapping the neck of Max, Diana instantly created a disconnect between herself and so many others. Not only did her willingness to take a life put her at odds with her closest allies, the fact that the murder of Maxwell Lord was broadcast to the public courtesy of Brother Eye caused everyday people on the street to distrust superheroes, period.
