Superman - DC's very own Man of Steel - is the first ever superhero. Sure, there were pulp heroes before him, but Jerry Siegel and Joe Shushter's character was the first to hail from another world and wield new and exciting powers. He was also the first hero to kickstart the DC Universe, and in doing so paved the way for the likes of Batman and others to follow.

Like Batman, Superman first got his start in a comic that didn't actually bear his name, that being Action Comics #1. Shortly thereafter, however, Superman found himself in a series of his own, and has been going strong ever since.

These days, the Last Son of Krypton tends to get overlooked in favour of his darker, Gotham-based counterpart. Be that as it may, he's still DC's number one character. He's inspiring, wholesome and daring all in one, and although his presence might get lost on certain corners in different years, he keeps on going.

Clark Kent is immortal, and with countless cartoons, serials, TV shows, games and films to his name, it's little wonder the comic that started it all is also the best selling floppy of all time.
