9 Cool Batman: Knightquest Moments Everyone Forgets About

1. Letting Abattoir Die

Jean-Paul Valley Azrael Batman
DC Comics

If ever fans had any doubt during the Knightfall event about Bruce Wayne's return, DC put them to rest during Jean-Paul Valley's encounter with the serial killer Abattoir. Batman has held one rule above all others; he does not kill. No matter the circumstances or how many lives he would ultimately spare by simply breaking the Joker's neck - all human life is sacred.

Arnold Etchison, a killer obsessed with murdering members of his own family, abducts his cousin and imprisons him inside a death trap. Batman tracks him down to a foundry, and in the ensuing battle Abattoir ends up hanging for his life over a vat of molten lava. He pleads with Azrael to save him, but instead, Batman watches as Etchison loses his grip and plummets to his death.

To compound matters, Azrael later learns from Jim Gordon that Etchison's cousin died while Batman was busy seeking vengeance.

Jean-Paul Valleys inaction resulting in the deaths of both the innocent and the guilty.
