9 Reasons Why DC Really Is Better Than Marvel

5. Those Iconic Imprints

While not a part of the Marvel/DC debate per se, it is true that DC's imprints have formed a vital part of comics discourse these last few decades, particularly so, when they themselves have been at the forefront of the industry's progression more often than not.

Vertigo, WildStorm and Milestone were all revered in their own way, with the first paving the way for publisher's to break Comics Code censorship and with the latter setting the terms for better representation in the medium. Pioneers like Jamie Delano, Neil Gaiman, Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan reinvented the superhero genre and challenged it to be more, and while the changes wrought by these creators weren't always assisted by DC, they are synonymous with that publisher, lending it a gravity that, in spite of Marvel's best efforts, is largely unrivalled in the medium.

Titles like Hellblazer, Static and Sandman were the bread and butter of DC's most salient years. Without them, it's likely that the industry would be in a vastly different place, one deprived of some of the most important stories it's ever seen.
