A-Z of Judge Dredd - 26 Important Things You Must Know
M is for Mega-City One
Mega-City One was one of three major areas to survive the nuclear war of 2070 that wiped out most of America. It stretches from Washington to Toronto all the way down the east coast to Florida, and is the biggest and most densely populated Mega-City.
The majority of Mega-City One's populace live in stupidly high rise apartment buildings, with each block having it's own criminal overlord running it. It is the job of the City law enforcement to keep these people under control, and none are better at this than Dredd himself.
N is for New Mutant Army
The New Mutant Army, lead by President Robert L. Booth, is an organised and heavily armed guerilla style army operating in the Cursed Earth. They have widespread support from the mutant populace, and are committed to destroying the Judges and reclaiming Mega-City One for Mutantkind. In 2127, they were responsible for the deaths of a brigade of Cursed Earth Auxiliaries. Unsurprisingly the Judges retaliated with overwhelming force, wiping out much of the Army. Unfortunately this act of destruction would also serve to turn many more mutants against the Justice Department, which is kind of how these things work in the real world. Right?O is for Origin
Origin is easily one of the longest running stories in the history of 2000 AD. Made up largely of flashbacks, it tells the story of the rise to power of Mega-City One's Judges. It appeared between the years 2006 and 2007 and ran from issue 1505 to 1535 and was the first collaboration between original creators Wagner and Ezquerra in a number of years. Origin was created as a special 30th anniversary gift for the comics loyal fan base and has become the go to guide for all future canon story lines.
P is for Psi-Judge Anderson
Judge Cassandra Anderson is the standout cadet in the Psi-Division, and also Judge Dredd's right hand ... er ... woman. Anderson is a psychic and is able to use these gifts to her advantage as part of her work as a Street Judge. She has played a big part in stopping the Dark Judges and even contained the creature within her own body in suspended animation for several years. Now THAT is dedication. As a member of the Psi Division Anderson is not able to get hold of the drugs and treatments that keep average Street Judges from aging at the normal rate. As a result she is now in her fifties and is struggling to come terms with this fact. Anderson will appear in the new Dredd movie and is played by Olivia Thirlby.
