A-Z of Judge Dredd - 26 Important Things You Must Know

Q is for SJS Judge Quincy

Judge Quincy is a member of the Special Judicial Squad, Mega-City One's answer to Internal Affairs. He is a Judge with the power to judge a Judge. Try saying that 5 times fast! Quincy would be part of a small group of SJS members that assassinated Chief Judge Goodman on the orders of Jude Cal, a corrupt and horrible man that blackmailed Judge's to carry out his evil deeds. While under the influence of Judge Cal, Quincy also tried to assassinate Dredd - in fact shooting him in the head with a rile. No need to tell you how that one ended! It has never been revealed what happened to Quincy, but he was last seen performing his duties in his underwear in 2000AD number 89.

R is for Rico

Rico Dredd is the clone brother of Judge Joe Dredd,. He is cut from the same cloth as his brother in every way except that Rico had a tendency to find himself on the wrong side of the law, where Dredd would never dream of such a thing. Rico first appeared in 1977 but has since returned on several occasions, and was a focal point of the horrible 1995 movie. Rico would find himself doing hard labour on the prison planet of Titan, where his hatred for his brother only grew deeper. Upon his release Rico challenged Joe to a duel in which he was finally put out of his misery.

S is for Slo-Mo

Slo-Mo is the reality altering drug featured heavily in the new Dredd movie, and peddled by the film's big bad Ma Ma Madrigal. It has its origins however in early Dredd comics and has the power to alter a users state of consciousness, literally slowing things down. Exactly what the appeal of such a drug is remains to be seen but at least it gives the filmmakers an excuse to use super slow-motion action sequences without being over stylised.

T is for Tek-Division

The Tek-Division is a large group of scientists working alongside the Justice Department. The groups role is to develop new weapons, carry out forensic evaluations, manufacture vehicles and other such delightful geeky things. The president of the Division is a man named Judge McTighe - a "corrupt yes man" according to Dredd.
