Cyclops vs Cyclops
In All-New X-Men, the original 5 X-Men (Angel, Beast, Iceman, Jean Grey and Cyclops) are transported to the future and will come across their future selves. The younger Cyclops will probably not react well to finding out his future self is public enemy number one and will seek out the older Scott for answers. Of course, the younger Cyclops has not had to go through what our Scott has for the past few years. Older Cyclops has been through the mill, protecting the mutant species from all dangers both internal and external. It will be interesting to see how their confrontation is resolved as with two Cyclops' running around, this will cause problems for both of them. Younger Cyclops will be persecuted for things that he has yet to do and may seek out the means to prevent his future self from committing these acts. He may look for a way to return to his timeline and save Professor X. It begs the question - when the timeline is restored eventually and the original X-Men are sent back, will Cyclops change events that will affect his future self? Will he become less of the leader we know and take a back seat to others? Will he continue to drive forward with renewed vigor and the determination to protect the mutant species but not by committing the same mistakes? Will he purposely remove himself from events that he was an integral part of? Older Cyclops will also have to constant reminder of what his life was like and what it has become. He will come face-to-face with a version of himself that is respected by the other X-Men and that is still with Jean Grey. He will see the mutant ideal of co-operation led by a version of himself that is still optimistic and not scarred by years of constant persecution from mutants and humans alike. It will be hard for him to find his place in the new world and seeing his younger self may be the cold reflection that he needs to see that could send him one of two ways. Cyclops could embrace and try to recapture the spirit of his younger days where he was part of a team that functioned and protected anyone from threats. He could rediscover his bright side and draw a line under the militant actions he has been forced into since M-day. He could equally go the opposite way and chastise his younger self for being naive and unprepared for what he sees as the harsh realities of his world. He could use his allies to solely protect the mutant species at the potential cost of humans justifying that they are the next step in evolution and becoming more like Magneto than ever.
