Redemption/Sacrifice
Can Cyclops make up for his actions under the influence of the Phoenix? Usually for a character in the comics world to redeem themselves they must suffer loss and this usually involves them sacrificing themselves for a greater cause. Could Cyclops be next in line to give his life for the greater good of the mutant species? Or could it be more interesting and reflective of his mind-set to have him sacrifice himself for a 'human cause' say in the pages of the Avengers? There is also the issue of the Void. The part of the Sentry that caused him to go insane and destroy Asgard was momentarily a part of Emma Frost's psyche before being transferred to Scott. The Void was locked in a part created by Jean Grey but is there any chance that the Void has been affecting Scott's decisions? This of course is the easy way to redeem Scott by pulling the classic 'it wasn't him', 'he wasn't making his own decisions' excuses and it is one that i would like to see ignored. Having Scott become a Marvel version of Hal Jordan when he was possessed by Parallax seems like a cop-out but I wouldn't put it past someone to try and levy all of the charges against the Void and exonerate Scott freeing him up for future stories. Part of Scott's potential redemption in the eyes of the Marvel Universe could be to face his actions and rejoin Wolverine as a Lieutenant in a reversal of the usual Wolverine/Cyclops dynamic. Scott as a teacher of mutants with the knowledge of how things could go wrong would be a interesting arc for the character.
