When talking about Captain Marvel it is almost impossible to neglect Kelly Sue DeConnick's contributions to the character. With Jamie McKelvie's redesign signalling a new era for the character, DeConnick thrust Danvers back into the middle of the Marvel Universe and as Earth's premier intergalactic ambassador, resulting in some truly fascinating and charming tales that wasted no time at all in showing just how much butt Danvers could kick.

Travelling between solar systems, planets and galaxies, Carol often found herself slap-bang in the middle of alien disputes. There was almost a Star Trek-esque feel to these adventures, but unlike the crew of the Enterprise, Captain Marvel was never afraid to put her foot down if the occasion called for it.

In one such instance, during a battle with a group who were effectively space pirates (not the good kind, like the Starjammers), Carol hopped out of her own ship and obliterated the leading vessel. Then, in a separate incident on the planet Torfa, Carol drew a big ol' cosmic line in the sand and prevented an oncoming fleet from attacking the planet altogether.
