X-Man Nate Grey
Marvel Comics

How Did He Die?

A refugee from the alternate Age of Apocalypse timeline, Nate Grey emerged into the 616 and adopted a role as a sort of mutant shaman, protecting the multiverse from danger. Eventually, that brought him into contact with an alien known as the Harvester, which was attempting to replicate itself into the cells of every living thing on earth so that its race could come and transform them all into energy to be consumed.

Nate made the valiant sacrifice of merging with the Harvester, contaminating the cells of everyone on earth with his own presence, making them unfit for consumption by the aliens. As deaths go, it was spectacularly noble.

How Did He Come Back?

Dark Beast (the evil Hank McCoy, also from the AoA world) theorised that Nate Grey would be able to pull himself back together eventually, and wouldn't you know it, he did. Phew. That was easy.
