How Did She Die?

Man, the New Mutants have really had a rough go of it over the years, considering this is the sixth one to appear on this list. During a skirmish with the Silver Samurai and Viper, Karma was assaulted by some sort of psychic entity who told her he was coming to "claim" her.

Meanwhile the villains were being defeated, which understandably rubbed them up the wrong way. The Samurai played one last trump card; a bomb. The cliffside they had all been fighting upon rolled into the sea, and Karma's body wasn't recovered, thought lost to the murky depths.

How Did They Come Back?

That psychic entity turned out to be the Shadow King, and in the confusion of the explosion at Big Sur he was able to possess Karma's body in a tragic inversion of her own psychic powers. Cannonball and Magik later stumbled across their old friend Karma at the head of a Fight Club-style group of mutants called the Gladiators.

Possessed by the Shadow King, evil Karma was able to possess a few of the X-Men until finally an old memory of her home in Vietnam came into her mind. She was able to remember her life and shook off Shadow King's control, before they battled on the Astral Plane. Karma won by inflating him until he exploded. Of course.
