Frank Miller returns to the character to craft the definitive take on Daredevil's origin. It's all here, folks- the accident that robs young Matt Murdock's eyesight, the murder of his father, Battlin' Jack Murdock, his training with the enigmatic Stick, and his first meeting with eventual love interest Elektra Natchios. Miller deftly weaves a tale of Matt's formative years, all the while depicting the rise of Daredevil's chief nemesis, the Kingpin. Wilson Fisk remains a shadowy presence for the duration of the story; he and Daredevil never even come into direct contact, but the two are inextricably linked in a vicious cycle of violence from this point onward. With the Netflix series heavily inspired by Miller's work on The Man Without Fear, first-time readers are treated to the bone-shattering, gritty realism of the show and the complexities of a hero driven by the need for justice and conflicted by his own morality. It you haven't read this one yet, now's as good a time as any.
