Dark Nights: Metal - 8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Batman Crossover

While Metal and its line-spawning ambitions fly the flag for forward-thinking in the comics industry, Dark Nights will also pay homage to DC's past with cameos by heroes from the publisher's golden years.

First-look teasers from issue #1 have confirmed that a reinvented version of 1950s superhero team the Challengers of the Unknown will make an appearance, along with the android Red Tornado.

If that isn't nostalgic enough for you, the Will Payton incarnation of Starman will add some '90s vibes to the event.

There's no word on how big of a role these guys will have in the story, but we'd guess they're Easter eggs, albeit fan-pleasing ones.
