5. Darth Vader Kills Emperor Palpatine In A Force Vision

No, your eyes do not deceive you. That is Palapatine lying dead at Anakin's hands, after the latter realised the error of his ways in joining the intergalactic tyrant.

Of course, while this event is 100% canon, it never happened in reality. Vader's swift execution of Palpatine (it literally takes him all of one panel to dispose of his former master) is the result of a Force vision showing Vader the future he could have if he renounced the Dark Side.

Vader may have refused the call to the light but it's implied that, had he followed through with the vision, he really could have dispatched Palpatine as easily as the Emperor dealt with every Jedi not named Mace Windu in Revenge of the Sith. (Alas, poor Kit. You deserved better).

After all, the movies made it clear that Anakin Skywalker was destined to become the most powerful force-wielder in the galaxy, and only his injuries and conflicted morality prevented him from becoming so. An Anakin fully immersed in the light side probably could have taken Palpatine - particularly as the Emperor wasn't expecting his apprentice to turn on him so soon - but that's not the path he chose.
