Death Of Wolverine: 10 Ways To Make It Not Suck

2. Suddenly Retconning Dark Secrets Into His History

More than once we€™ve seen revered figures turned into outright villains with sudden alterations to their long histories. The Crossing tried to turn Iron Man into a sleeper agent within the Avengers who had always been working for an old foe, and X-Men Deadly Genesis was little more than the total character assassination of Charles Xavier. No matter how many times it just keeps happening and how massive the backlash is, it seems that writers never learn from these mistakes. Given Wolverine€™s long life, and his history of violent acts, it would not be difficult to insert some new atrocity he was the cause of. Perhaps with him triggering Magneto€™s dark turn towards extremism or somehow accidentally unleashing Apocalypse upon the world. Wolverine as a character already has enough darkness in his life from his time in Weapon X to the many wars he has been involved in. He has taken the lives of countless individuals, witnessed the bombing of Hiroshima and seen humanity develop countless weapons to destroy itself. Any grim elements of his past should originate from those experiences, not some sudden revelation added at the last moment.
