Every Character Who Lifted Thor's Hammer Mjolnir

4. Jane Foster

Hulk Mjolnir
Marvel Comics

After the events of Original Sin, Thor found himself with a new problem: he could no longer lift his own hammer. For reasons that wouldn't be explained for some time, Mjolnir deemed Thor to be unworthy of it and refused to budge.

Deciding that there must always be a Thor guarding Midgard, Thor's mother gives the hammer to a cancer patient named Jane Foster. Slowly dying, Jane decided to use the powers of Thor to do as much good as she possibly could with the time she had remaining.

A setup like that practically guarantees death as the ending. However, because Jane signed on with the Norse pantheon, she signed onto their rules regarding death and the afterlife, meaning that death is just a stumbling block in a greater journey.

These days Jane currently holds the mantle of Valkyrie after her predecessor died during the War of the Realms storyline.
