Every Time Thor Has Died In Comics (And How He Came Back To Life)

7. Thor - Thor Disassembled

Thor Odin
Marvel Comics

Thor Disassembled is a funny old beast, as it contains a story wherein the God of Thunder more or less signs off on his own death - which is an unusual decision for any hero to have, unless they're in epically dire straights.

Dire straight such as those that Thor does admittedly face in the Dissembled series, as the God of Thunder realises that the only way to prevent the destruction of the universe in Ragnarok is to destroy Ygaddril, the ancient tree of the world, which will end his life. Despite being obviously displeased about this, the hero knows that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and thus chops the tree down with the kind of passion that would suggest a career in horticulture should be in his future - you know, after he comes back from being dead and all that.

While you could argue that he doesn't 'properly die' in this instance, his mortal form definitely does, as he has to be summoned back from the Void in order to reappear in comics, suggesting that the Norse icon was pretty dead - even if his godly form was just technically taking a big old nap.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
