Although the main focus on the anniversary issue will be on the plethora of creators Marvel have assembled, potentially the most salient aspect of the story will be Ewing's overarching narrative. He's already promised a mystery of sorts, but he also clued fans in on what to expect last week too, in that it will involve an artefact known as the 'Eternity Mask'.

The connotations of the mask are apparent enough, given the issue will dive into the past, present and future of Marvel's history, but there could be another element at play. Does it have something to do with Marvel's very first issue? Or could there be a way that Eternity, the living embodiment of the multiverse, is involved too?

It's impossible draw conclusions at this stage, but the sense of scale implies Marvel has more planned for Ewing's mystery than just this one-shot. Or at least one would hope.
