Marvel Legacy: 8 Reasons The Fans Should Be Worried
5. 53 Titles Feels Like Overkill
If there's one thing DC learned from its New 52 reboot fairly quickly, it's that 52 new titles was too many to flood the market with at once.
Shortly after Marvel's rival launched the initiative, it was scaled back and slimmed down. That wasn't enough to save the project, but the point still stands.
The House of M's decision to put out 53 revamped series at launch - with more certain to follow at a later date - seems like a deliberate attempt to one-up its bitter rival, but less should have been more in this regard.
Other publishers including Dark Horse, Dynamite and BOOM! Studios have made a big deal about slimming down their lines with a focus on quality over quantity, and Marvel should have taken the same approach.
This also harks back to our point about appealing to newcomers. When your catalogue of ongoing titles is big enough to drown in, accessibility is a problem.
