Marvel's Fresh Start: 8 Reasons To Be Concerned

1. It Overshadows The Books Themselves

Undoubtedly the most frustrating thing about these relaunches (and A Fresh Start in particular), is that they overshadow the brilliant stories Marvel's creators produce. The publisher has an abundance of amazing comics, and while they're also prone to - y'know - cancelling them, the amazing work published over at the House of Ideas never seems to get lauded quite the way DC's does.

Are DC perfect? Most certainly not. They do, however, court far less controversy than their not-so-Marvellous rivals. That means more praise, less frustration, and ultimately more time for fans to just get talking about their comics. With Marvel, their next big thing almost always seems to be diluted by a relaunch or some other controversy, and it overshadows the publisher's best books.

It's a massive shame, and although DC do - on occasion - dabble in the odd relaunch, they're never quite as overhyped, overvalued, or as dominant as Marvel's. The books themselves are publicised first and foremost, whereas with Marvel, it almost feels like the relaunch itself has its spot in the limelight reserved.

There's no denying the talent at Marvel, but when the company continue to 'uhm' and 'ah' on their numberings, leave books to fend for themselves and promise a relaunch every year, 'Making Mine Marvel' might not be as simple an exercise as they hope.

What do you think of Marvel's Fresh Start? Is it a relaunch too many? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
