Jubal Early made his first appearance in the Firefly episode Objects in Space. He resonated as one of the more interesting villains on the show. Throughout the course of the TV show and comics, this character has been shoved into the vastness of space and dropped out a spaceship in atmosphere, mangling his body. Apparently he has nine lives. As amazing as he was as a villain on the show, having him around now doesn't really add anything to the story.

Comics based on Whedon's work have a bad habit of bringing back villians that we thought were dead, and seemingly only because they add a familiar element to the narrative. The world of Serenity is literally a universe, and it's a little far fetched that the crew keeps running into the same small handful of adversaries.

Jubal was set up at the end of the last mini-series, Leaves on the Wind, to have a significant role in this current story, but the quicker he can get out of it the better. Dark Horse should give the fans something new to see and unknown villains to go up against. The crew members are all the readers need to connect them back to this world, and disposable antagonists are best left disposed.
