Firefly was intended to be a sprawling story with long running plot threads. To help with this, Whedon and the other writers planted seeds to set these stories up, but many were not able to be addressed within the time they had. Both the film Serenity and some of the comics have solved a few of the mysteries that were initially tabled, however there is still one major looming mystery left: the history of Inara.

Since the time Firefly ended, some of her past has been filled in by those who worked on the show. Mostly notably, co-executive producer Tim Minear has mentioned at panels and in interviews what parts of her history were supposed to be. But, what was originally planned will not necessarily carry over into the comics.

We know that she left the central planets without much explanation to those close to her at the time. She stated that she does not want to die and has gone to see the ship's doctor in secret. The story seems to point to having some kind of terminal condition, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. The first issue of No Power in the Verse seems to indicate her history will be addressed, but it is still unclear.

This was a mystery that started 12 years ago. It's time to give a conclusion.
