9. SP//dr (Peni Parker, Earth-TRN451)
The final issue in the 'Edge of Spider-Verse' series was penned by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and was, as expected somewhat unusual. The issue opened with the death of another universe's Peter Parker, before introducing Peni Parker as next in line to operate the symbiotic SP//dr. Just how she is able to wield this robotic avatar is not made entirely clear in the story - this is left for readers to ponder through the issue - but one thing that is certainly clarified is just how cool this iteration of everybody's favourite wall-crawler is. Peni is a well-formed character with a wisdom and intellect that seems beyond her years. Like so many other good Spider-Man stories, hers is a search for just who she is, what makes her special? As far as readers will be concerned, it's the unique style and edge that her - and her world - bring to a familiar Marvel landscape. Whether we will see much more of these two over the course of Spider-Verse remains to be seen, but if this was just a fleeting cameo then it was certainly an entertaining one.
