Star Wars: 10 Best Expanded Universe Comics From The New Canon

7. Kanan (2015-2016)

Star Wars Vader Down
Marvel Comics

The Kanan series explores the life of Caleb Dume during his early years throughout his Jedi training. It details his experience of surviving Order 66 and the death of his master and how he hides his link to the force to survive.

Written by Greg Weisman (Suicide Squad) and drawn by Pepe Larraz (House of X), this creative team managed to explore the loss and tragedy that drives Kanan forward to become the renegade fighting against the Galactic Empire alongside the crew of the Ghost, seen in Star Wars Rebels.

Pepe Larraz's art is stunning as usual, capturing every moment with perfect detail. Highlighting the struggle this lone Padawan feels, both under his master and on the run from the Galatic Empire. Weisman manages to infuse more character into Kanan's past hinted at within the Rebels series, building on what was already established, without detracting from it.

The 12-issue series is a must-read for any fan of the Rebels TV series, as it provides crucial details for one of the main characters. As rumours of a Rebels revival circle, now's the perfect time to pick up Kanan.
