Star Wars: 10 Expanded Universe Comics Every Fan Must Read

3. Doctor Aphra

Doctor Aphra is just about the best original addition to the Star Wars expanded universe that Marvel have made, and for one simple reason: she's basically Indiana Jones in a galaxy far, far away.

Spinning off from the pages of Star Wars: Darth Vader, Kieron Gillen brings Star Wars fans a look at Chelli Lona Aphra, a human archaeologist who, instead of demanding every artefact 'belongs in a museum', explores her hobby purely for financial gain. She's not the most heroic figure, but she's no less compelling, and the fact she got her own spin-off book goes some way in proving just how popular the character is.

It's hard to get into the details of Aphra without spoiling what happens in Vader (which we'll get to in a second), but once you're finished with that series, Aphra is the perfect continuation.
