02. Year One
Even if you've never read Frank Miller's landmark comic (then shame on you) but you've certainly heard the story. Without Year One there would be no Batman Begins. Written and presented in much the same way as Miller's groundbreaking Sin City series, Year One is the definitive origin story for the caped crusader. Watching his parents die in gruesome detail is only the start for this unhinged young man that grows up to dress like a Bat. Much like the Batman Begins movie we also trace the rise of James Gordon and his uneasy relationship with the caped crusader. With art work by David Mazzicchelli and Richmond Lewis, Year One remains a timeless classic that should be the starting point for anyone wanting to learn everything there is to know about about Batman.
