One of the most shocking moments of the comic series was when Andrea got bitten in issue #165. By this point a whole new society had emerged and it really seemed like deaths due to walkers were a thing of the past. But after an attack organised by the Whisperers, Andrea unfortunately got bitten on the neck. Due to the location of the bite there was no way to operate on it, sealing her fate.

It was gutting for fans to have read as Andrea collapsed into Rick's arms as he realised that she had been bitten. The entirety of issue #167 is dedicated to saying goodbye to Andrea.

Not only was she one of the leading protagonists of the series, Rick's wife and a surrogate mother to Carl, but she was a favourite among fans. Being only around thirty issues before the end of the series, Andrea was so close to getting a happy ending.

But Robert Kirkman always had his master plan for the series and Andrea dying made it feel like the war with the Whisperers had real consequence and demonstrated that the characters were never safe.
