4. Mjolnir Can See Throught Illusions

Because of the Uru’s properties, it is especially attuned to magical forces, both retaining them through enchantments and its ability to detect magic, find and track magic users, and especially see through spells and illusions to dispel them. This came in handy when dealing with the demon Mephisto.

In Thor #310, the Thunder God thwarted some purse snatchers and gave them the opportunity to mend their ways or suffer the consequences. He also saved some children from being struck by an out-of-control cab and gained some adulation from the crowd. This enraged Mephisto, who believed that mankind was naturally predisposed to be selfish and choose their own base desires, which would lead their souls to ultimately be tainted enough by evil to come to his realm. The demon felt that the Odinson was “cheating” by inspiring humans to choose to be better people and think of others.

To “even the score”, Mephisto whispered in the ear of people in the same neighborhood, causing them to commit crimes and start a riot. When Thor returned to help, the rogue opened up the ground and drew several of the people present - and Thor - into his nefarious realm. There, the Devil multiplied himself, and unsure of who the true villain was, the God of Thunder let Mjolnir fly. The hammer cut through several illusions before striking the true Mephisto, staggering him and shattering his spell.
